The Social Entrepreneurship Summit – SES – brings together academics, students, business leaders, government officials and social entrepreneurs to co-create solutions to the most challenging issues of our society. This summit aims at gathering all different actors to foster collaboration among themselves and to intensify the hands-on support to social entrepreneurs and all ecosystem partners.  The summit is organized by Equalisi BVBA, in cooperation with the Chair of Social Entrepreneurship at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium) and the Innovation and Tech Transfer Program at Universidad Mayor de San Simon in Bolivia.

We are proud to present the SES2022 edition “New perspectives for Social Entrepreneurship in the new normal” to be held in a hybrid format: participation is possible online and on-site in Cochabamba, Bolivia. For two days, participants in the summit will discuss and present their ideas on how SEs initiatives are contributing to addressing the emerging challenges due to the current pandemic. We have seen that some SEs have rapidly adapted to change, while others couldn’t cope with the pressure of the system due to a lack of resources and support. We would like to explore, discuss and reflect upon what is called the “new normal” and how do SEs are coping, transforming and adapting to be able to address the most pressing challenges of our society.

At the summit, participants will benefit from the provoking talks of distinguished Key Note Speakers, as well as from direct contact with numerous social entrepreneurs at the social entrepreneurship fair. We are grateful for the support of our partners, especially our host institution in Bolivia, Universidad Mayor de San Simon. This summit also counts with the support of projects such as ELANET, SEfficiency and VLIR IUC in Bolivia.

A new way of organizing a conference in COVID times

It is our ambition to organize SES2022 safely and responsibly, in light of the current situation worldwide related to the COVID 19 pandemic.

We started with this event in 2019 in Santa Marta, Colombia, with more than 120 participants, of which 70 presentations from 15 different countries. In 2020 and 2021, the summit took place online due to the pandemic. Despite the online setting, our summit congregated more than 200 participants each year. We have reunited academics, practitioners and entrepreneurs from more than 35 different nationalities, sharing their research, projects and social entrepreneurship initiatives.  The Summit also features the Social Entrepreneurship Fair, where entrepreneurs can showcase their products and projects. This fair counted with more than 30 social entrepreneurs during the first edition of the summit and during our online conferences, we had video presentations of entrepreneurs from Belgium, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Uganda, Nigeria and Tanzania.

SES2022 is planned to be held as a hybrid conference. This means both, onsite in Cochabamba and online. We hope for favourable conditions to have the opportunity to meet in person and to host virtually those participants who are unable to travel. We will closely monitor the situation in Bolivia and communicate in due time, should our plans of hosting an onsite conference change.
